Preparation Class for GMAT
The GMAT or Graduate Management Admission Test is a test that is taken prior to enrolling
in an MBA degree program. The GMAT test measures the academic abilities of the student and a
good score shows the student will succeed in an MBA program. An MBA degree program is
demanding and requires a large amount of dedication, so the GMAT test is designed to be
difficult to ensure a student will be able to handle the degree program. Being that the GMAT
exam is not easy, it is essential that students take some classes to prepare them for the
test. For proper GMAT preparation the GMAT course work should teach the students about each
section of the test. The exam is a 4 hour test that consists of three sections. There is the
analytical writing assessment, quantitative section, and a verbal section. The top MBA
programs look for students that have a GMAT score of 700 or higher. Preparation for the
Graduate Management Admission Test should start one to three months before the exam is to be
taken. This ensures the student has time to take some classes and practice tests that will
fully prepare them for the exam. Each section of the test should be studied and the student
should be tested. This preparation testing can help students identify where they need more
practice. Working on each section allows a student to ensure that they master the skills for
each section and that they feel confident about each section of the test. The analytical
writing assessment consists of 2 essay questions. The student is given a half an hour to work
on each question. This section of the test measures the student’s ability to analyze
information and communicate their ideas. One question presents and issue the student must
explain their point of view about. The other question is an argument that the student must
explain their reasoning behind their position. The quantitative section of the GMAT is
designed to measure the students mathematical ability. This section features 37 multiple
choice questions. The student is given 75 minutes to complete this section. Some of the
questions are problem solving questions and others are data sufficiency questions. The
verbal section of the test consists of 41 multiple choice questions and the student is given
75 minutes to complete it. There are three types of questions in the verbal section. Reading
comprehension questions give the student a passage to read and then answer questions about.
These questions are designed to measure the students ability to comprehend what they are
reading and how well they retain information they read. Critical-reasoning questions involve
the student analyzing an argument. This section requires the student to be able to explain
their point of view and develop a course of action. The sentence correction questions test the
students knowledge of English grammar and sentence structure. In preparing for the GMAT a
student needs to work on each section. By the end of their preparation classes the student
should fully be ready to take the test. They should have taken practice tests that allowed
them to work on each section and ensure they have a good understanding of what to expect on
the actual GMAT exam. |
